Build Me Your World

4EA8E81993The essential thing about a poet is that he builds us his world.”                                         -Ezra Pound

I love this quote and just maybe this is the only purpose of creativity of any kind… to build the world of the artist to others. Then what’s built inflects another and the flame of creativity passed forward. And what’s been said before is said again but with a different twist… something old, something new. Thus, words are born again from an old dictionary, paint’s mixed again over a new canvas, and a solitary trumpet is heard in a distant alley playing a tune that is familiar but not ever played before. Creativity is the feel of metaphorical wet clay from deep inside the earth brought forth into a new light, fanned from an old flame into the new day.  So for each of us; our world spread out over the universe passed forward from time and time again as we are the artist who builds our world for the other.

  1. I like this. It also reminds me of Procol Harum’s song Pilgrim’s Progress:

*I sat me down to write a simple story
Which maybe in the end became a song
The words have all been read by one before me
We’re taking turns in trying to pass them on*

A beautiful song once long ago, in the right state of mind.
