What Is Needed
From our very first breath in the temporal realm, we’re drawn to certain characters who leave a mark on our lives. Some are known to us, some hidden or not fully realized what their purpose is. They come in verities of disguises; friends, lovers, parents, siblings, acquaintances and so on. Some invade our lives for a short time while others stay longer. These are Shipmates and Soulmates. I’m sure you can name many who fit under these personas and if you think long enough can come up with many fellow travelers who influenced you in the time it takes to inhale a single breath and then they’re gone. Still, in other cultures where reincarnations practiced, these envoys come and go throughout multiple lifetimes and characters. Everyone leaves a mark on our lives as we do in return, for nothing’s wasted, all things have a purpose.
Friends And Lovers
Relationships seem like a game of marbles; we want them and then we give them away. But to keep the ones we need, how does one decide? You see me and I see you, there is an attraction and the heart takes its chosen course. Some suggest we’re too in love with being in love… repeating the first dance over and over again. So how do we make love stay or how do we let it go when it’s run its course? I love the old comparison to a ship sailing in smooth, sometimes hostile waters as two people work in unison. The test comes at critical mass, change takes place. Will this vessel sail as one or will there be discord among the passengers? For it takes both to surmise if they are better off together or as separate entities. Again we have what’s needed in life but that doesn’t tell you how to make love stay. Nothing remains at the end of the day except the love you make.
Go To The Mirror
When our guards lowered and the deep-rooted character of a person comes out. We may find fault that we must own up to in return. Everyone is a complex mini-series of successes and failures all in the longing of love. We look in the mirror and see our ‘others’ in the form of the many we have known in life so far… a grand parade of friends and lovers stretching through our memory. It is then that we realize that we become the good and bad we see in others. In this life, we are apt to find shipmates or soulmates and maybe if we’re lucky these two are found in one but it’s not a sure thing. Each has its place in the design we create. They come from out there, light years away and what connects any two people together is a mystery that creates something from nothing. Out of nothing, we get what’s needed and if we don’t fight these characters as they traverse our lives we may find our true shipmate and soulmate all in one… and that my dear I’ve found in you…

How true JC, we do indeed meet many Shipmates as we grow and travel onwards in life.
How treasured they are and how they are part of forming our charachters and future.
To truly find your Soulmate and Shipmate in one person is a great blessing indeed.
Out of nothing they come as you say; so surprising that we might walk past.
A wonderfully thoughtful and spiritual post again, as we come to expect from you.:)
I do love your photo; do you know the name of that moth or butterfly? Stunning colour.

Thanks Mirja, I’m not sure of the moths proper name. To me he represents the change others inflect on our lives.
Thanks for your kind words!

it’s amazing how natural
& quickly they appear,
then disappear 🙂

Yes this is true, some for a split second gone but there gifts remain indefinitely.

Yes, I agree with all of this. Not that it’s something to be agreed or disagreed with, but this is what I’ve been pondering and trying to put into words for a while now. It’s like life is really a journey and along some paths, you’ll find a friend or lover. Some will stay. Others will leave, venturing on a different path themselves. It seems if we could see life and relationships in this way, we’d all be a bit happier. Thanks also for this MJ song; it’s one of my favorites.

I am so glad you see this too. And it would be a better world if we looked at the big picture. People enter out lives for reasons yet to be understood. Thx.

A deeply reflective post, JC and touches on a topic I often think about…the lives that touch mine and vice versa, the people still in my life, those gone, those I let go…beautifully written and full of power of life and love. Oh love the picture of the moth (?) and the song, can’t believe I haven’t heard that before.

Thanks Annika. All the characters who touch our lives and especially for me, the ones we’ll never know.
I saw the moth one morning as I opened my from door. He stayed three for about three hours. This is the first time I see these colors.

I’ve always believed that there are reasons why there are those who stay in our lives and those who quickly leave. Indelible marks are left in our souls, and it’s up to us to decipher their meaning. I enjoy the way your posts often make me stop and think. Beautiful and thoughtful writing. ❤

I agree, I just can’t fathom the thought that everything is a big accident, all a game of chance. There is an order in the midst of the chaos.
Thank you for reading and the compliment. It is always appreciated to have your peers enjoy your work… jc
