Solitude

“Solitude is not found so much by looking outside the boundaries of your dwelling but by staying within. Solitude is a deepening of the present and unless you look for it in the present you will never find it.” -Thomas Merton Continue reading Solitude

The Road To Anjou

To be happy is to know where we should be on the path even with pain, in effect living from the still-point of our eternal flame. This is where we grow, step-by-step closer to the Grail… JC

At times the refusal of the journey is the most important part of the path, a turning point that can never be rescinded. The Continue reading The Road To Anjou

Onward To the Palace of Wisdom- Love, Pt. 4

coat-42063_1280“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything, and your heart will certainly be wrung and possibly be broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact, you must give your heart to no one, not even to an animal. Wrap it up carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements; lock it up safe in the casket of the coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket– safe, dark, motionless, airless–it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable.  –C.S. Lewis (from The Four Loves) Continue reading Onward To the Palace of Wisdom- Love, Pt. 4

For a story concerned with giving to others in compassion, goodwill, and charity Continue reading Good Tidings of Perfect Light

The Middle Way… a dialogue

Pilgrim: I  feel the silence in this moment, a silence so deep it thunders in my head, I ask of you, my friend where is my mask, my armor with shield and sword held against this cold world? The armor I polished every day complete with accolades to its mesh, the shield which hid me from all the undesirable thoughts and situations, the compassion I could have felt but choose not to, the sword that cut away anything that ruined my view of my world. So was the shield hiding me from the world or from myself? Was my armor there to facilitate my way in the world or detain me from my true path? Continue reading The Middle Way… a dialogue

Consider… The Soul, Vol. 2

J98QBNOWT3The Artist
Artistic expression is an undertaking of reverence toward the soul; of hidden things in the night which will simultaneously expand and unlock its secrets to the advantage of one’s art. But where do these epiphanies come from… esoterically without or within?

Comfort in Your Own Skin
Soul is anything you do for yourself that feels comfortable to you; it centers you, completes you. It could be the clothes you wear, the music you hear, a morning cup of coffee. The soul requires this comfort. What is offbeat to one is soulful to another. Continue reading Consider… The Soul, Vol. 2

Book Review, The Painted Veil

FullSizeRender By W. Somerset Maugham

“Lift not the painted veil which those who live call Life”             -Shelley

W.Somerset Maugham has long been one of my favorite authors in part because he pulls together different streams of life into a composite that leaves you thinking far after the last word’s read. Another reason is during his lifetime Maugham traveled the east extensively and that philosophy always comes out in his novels in the most interesting ways.

The Painted Veil is a sort of reverse love affair where the main characters never really fall in love with each  other. The veil hides the reality of our life from ourselves and others, we hide and don’t want to see Continue reading Book Review, The Painted Veil
