Onward to The Palace of Wisdom- Love, Pt. 5

The Big Bang of Love on the Particle Accelerator.

Further along, the road of love is affirmed with our 5th installment as we take on 3 more inflections of love. Have we learned anything? Is the going on the particle accelerator of romance reaping anything new or do we smash into one another, scratch our heads because we have more questions than answers. They say only a fool talks of love. Well, I don’t see an end to our foolishness, so here goes.

The Paradox

They say that love is of the universe, beyond time, a great equalizer amongst men and women. But being in love is to know it’s complications, it’s perplexities, and it’s paradoxical situations. Yet with all love’s obstacles that we may face we still dream and long for its sense of wonder, the smile it brings to a face, the light it shines on the world we know. Maybe that’s the rub for love and all its complexities instill a sense of being alive in each of us, for to live is to taste life and all its situations, good and bad. And what does love do but throw us into the mix and we accept and integrate with this amalgamation and all the pain and glory it may bring to our lives.

Yet why all the complications from something so universal, so critical that it puts all on the same level? Maybe the term universal is the key, for love is beyond our world, beyond our particulars that we color our lives in. It doesn’t see or know our pettiness, our reasons. For the echelon love journeys down from is beyond opposites, beyond concepts, it is not a word but an energy all its own which we can only hope to be lucid enough to feel its transcendence. From that height the decision to love is simple, all temporal concepts put aside.

“Love, what a mess it can bring to your life, guaranteed to screw things up, but what a glorious screw-up. For it is out of this world, of the universe.”
-Joseph Campbell

The Sum

We become a vessel of and for love, for the joy and sorrow, we have found because we loved. The joy’s in accepting oneself, which is the hat trick. We become a sum of all the parts of love we have given and received… past, present, and future to come. But remember one’s evolution in love or else we may get numb to the parts that make up the sum.

Thus we become a victim of our own situation. Give a purpose for all the parts of love that have evolved to make us who we are, channel the negative energy and wake up to the play of the universe. For remember, the heart is stronger than the mind.

“Love between two people though parted will last as long as the love is remembered.”
-Bette Davis, ‘All This and Heaven too’

A Secret

Keep your love protected from the eyes of the world, so the covetous demons of doubt and fear can’t penetrate loves holy circle. Let it be contained in the hollowed boundaries of two hearts. For society, friends, family, and enemies can stretch love even in it veiled form. But once it’s published, this elasticity can rupture and turn pure love between two into a fight against the world. For others are envious of what they see and don’t have, but in a hermetically concealed union, they don’t want what they can’t see.

  1. Love is indeed an all encompassing topic so you have chosen bravely.
From the unquestioning love for your newborn child, for nature’s gifts
to the more complex love between man and woman.

Would it be that the expressions of love were just as pure in all kinds of relationships we have; be it for the child, the birds, the trees, the ocean, friends As for the woman/man in your life.
Love does not live in the poisoned ground of greed, anger, jealousy. Nor does it survive the breath of pretence or lies. Freshness, openness and joy make us dance free from fear.

    1. Yes, Mirja, I believe love is all encompassing and a true value of one’s ability to love is how they treat the Earth and her inhabitance; the rivers, birds and the land and much more that we take for granted. Thank for your lovely words.

  2. ‘People don’t want what they can’t see.’ Jealousy is an enemy of love, it’s true. Showing off love is a sure way to provoke the battle. For years I never wore a wedding band. 39 years of marriage later, I guess it wasn’t a bad thing. Too late for them to get envious now.

  3. JC, a wonderful thought-provoking essay on love in all its forms – in this world and beyond. I started to highlight one sentence that particularly struck a chord with me, but then came across another and yet another…This is superb, strikes to the heart of love and ‘it is not a word but an energy all its own which we can only hope to be lucid enough to feel its transcendence’. I cannot imagine existing without this force in my life – and not sure it would be a life at all. Well done for an excellent post and one that will stay with me.😀

    1. Thank you, Annika, I’m extremely glad my post struck you so. Yes, love is an energy, in my opinion, and like the wind, unpredictable. So one should hold on for the ride and don’t let go.

  4. Love is felt in the heart where reason and logic are not residents. I enjoyed your words, JC. I agree that love between two people never needs an explanation or an announcement to the world. No one can possibly know what goes on in another’s heart unless they are part of that relationship. Excellent and thought provoking post!

    1. Thanks, I love the fact that reason and logic can’t survive in the heart. We can’t even enter there effectively, that’s why we have poets to help us understand.

  5. I have thought about this concept ever since I remember remembering. I had to think and contemplate harder my evolving theories on love, because I always felt it lacking and me needing more of it, much more. And either during those times of contemplation or during lucky days of meditation, I have ‘felt’ something ecstatically magical come over me, the aha moment to understand the essence underlying the saying “love holds the Universe together”.
I remember thinking- as if now getting a bird’s eye view- Love is all there is, holding the atoms together, that some call the will of God.
Thank you for a great topic and a yet another ‘love’ly post, JC

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment… what a picture of love holding the universe together and all the atoms together. I know what you mean about times of meditation… the ah-ha moment. I just wish I could readily portray that to others. The hardest 3 words in the dictionary…” I” and “love” and “you”.
