Quote10- T.S.Eliot

I said to my soul, be still, and wait without hope,                             tseliot  For hope would be hope for the wrong things.                                 Wait without love, for love would be love for the wrong things; there is yet faith, but the faith, and the love and the hope are all in the waiting. Wait without thought for you are not ready for thought. So the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing”.   -T.S.Eliot, East Coker,*The Four Quartets

Require the soul to dance in the emptying stillness of waiting. Not for the truth of what we are at this moment in temporal existence. For these moments are too insignificant when taken alone for one to be able to perceive the majesty of what we truly seek. For what we seek is outside the veil of time, beyond anything material. Open to the essence of something much larger and wilder, and when that comes into being, wait over and over again. There is real faith, the soul waiting without hope continuously from epiphany to epiphany. For at the opposite end of hope is patience as patience thus wrapped in mindfulness.

  1. Jeff, my mind is enjoying its early morning gymnastics reading your post this morning.😀 re reading again I gleam its meaning and relish the poetry in your language. ‘For what we seek is outside the veil of time’ and ‘patience thus wrapped in mindfulness’. Exquisite.

  2. “For what we seek is outside the veil of time, beyond anything material. Open to the essence of something much larger and wilder”, how beautiful you put this Jeff. You seem so serene in your writing.

I found the poem very sad and also wondered how you could wait without love as love is the
essence of all being. Pour T.S. Elliot, he was troubled.
He says about him and his wife: “To her, the marriage brought no happiness. To me, it brought the state of mind out of which came “The Wasteland”.

    Wonderful posting Jeff. Bless

    1. Thank you Mirja… Yes, I believe he also had his marriage in mind when he wrote that line… ‘love of the wrong things’. I wanted to make it signify a deeper love; beyond our concept of love. At least, I hope he finally saw it that way.:-)
